I have always loved stories. For me, there is something magical about a story which can pull the reader/listener in and either make him identify with the main character or inspire him to further pursue a topic independently.
Stories do a lot more than just entertain. Stories — especially well communicated stories — are helpful in the pursuit of truth, because stories can add perspectives, highlight details, and shed light on material that is otherwise dull or murky. A story is unique because it is not a perfect ‘record’ of experience but rather a slice of experience that is repackaged in a way that makes it understandable, easy to relate to, and pleasant to hear about.
Developing new stories is hard. It is not easy to come up with new ideas, characters, plot twists, and so forth, and see that everything happens in a manner that makes sense and in a way that is interesting. I’ve put together a list of my favorite shows which contain some of my favorite stories; readers are encouraged to comment and/or submit lists of their own favorite ‘storytelling’ shows.
*The Twilight Zone
